  • Today's post about Choosing your Wedding Date may be short, but this is a great tip for saving some money on your wedding. You can read about our other Budget Saving Tips for your wedding on the blog.

Saving money on your wedding can be as simple as picking the right date. If you and your fiance don't have a specific date in mind, here are a few tips for when to say "I Do":

Off Season. The most popular months for getting married are May through October. And late November through New Year's is usually a busy time for holiday parties (meaning hotels and entertainment may be booked up). Choosing a date in January, February, or March could actually save you money and give you more options when searching for vendors. Keep in mind that different states have different off-seasons and try to plan accordingly. And make sure you pick a venue that is appropriate for the weather! An outdoor wedding in December may not be the best choice (or at least have a back-up plan in case it rains!).

Skip Saturday. Saturdays are a popular day to get married. So why not consider a Friday or Sunday wedding? It's likely your guests are taking some time off of work to travel for your wedding anyway, so a Friday or Sunday wedding shouldn't bee too much of a hassle. Some vendors offer lower rates if they can book a non-Saturday event. Why? Because this may allow them to book more than one event per weekend.

Holidays. Choosing a date near Valentine's Day or Mother's Day will require you to pay top dollar for your floral arrangements. Floral prices sky rocket for these two holidays! However, if you are planning a church wedding, choosing a date near Christmas or Easter may save you some money on flowers. Most churches are decorated for the holiday seasons, so additional flowers for your ceremony won't be needed. The same is true for most hotels. If you are planning to have your reception at a hotel, you may save some money if the hotel is already decorated for the holiday!

Stacy and Mark were married in December 2010 and were able to incorporate the beautiful holiday decorations into both their wedding ceremony and reception.

  • I met up with Racheal last week to go over some wedding planning details but mostly just to chat and share some wine and food. Her and Rochan have been in full swing wedding planning mode and it was a much needed time-off from the planning chaos. I'm so glad she was able to spend a good solid 3 hours with me. :-) We shared a very appropriate bottle of Bridesmaid Cab. The cork was perfect - one side says "catch the bouquet" the other side says "I do". Taking time for yourself and unwinding with friends is important in general, even more important when you're in the middle of planning a wedding, which is so stressful.

Thanks Racheal for taking the time to unwind with me.

  • Kirsten and Keith came to one of our family session days. Being photographers themselves, makes it hard to sometimes to get a full family photo since one of them is always on the other side of the lens. So I told her to show up so we could do a full family photo! Kirsten was worried that Parker wasn't in one of his giggle/smiley moods....but I think we got plenty of smiles out of him!

  • I mean, come on....how can you not love that little smile?!

  • And those of you who know me, know that I love hats of all kinds. And on kids, hats are the best!

  • The trees are finally turning and I love the fall colored backgrounds.

  • I think Parker is about to start making the pucker sound as he was making some funny faces.

  • Lastly, I had to show off the shoes!

  • After our shoot, we had Kirst and Keith over for dinner. Kirsten was responsible for our Bold Loft photo that we submitted for the contest. (PLEASE GO VOTE if you haven't yet - you must be on facebook, and you have to LIKE the Bold Loft page before you can then Like our photo). While taking our photo, Keith and Parker spied our cats...well I should point out that I think Parker only saw Zoe, but Clariese was just one step higher on their cat tree. Good thing the cats were on their best behavior!

  • The next family photo session we're sharing is the Spektorov family. I've known Anton now for several years and they just recently added Vanessa to their family of 3, making it 4. This first photo of Elena, Anton, Marshall and Vanessa is my all time favorite. Vanessa is super strong and doesn't easily let go of anything she gets her hands on, in this case, she tugged on Marshall's ear and he smiled through it the entire time.

  • Marshall is one of those kids that easily smiles and can model for the camera.

  • I thought this moment was touching. Marshall was sharing some leaves with his sister.

  • Natalie shot this session with me and she got this wonderful photo of Anton and his son....such a strong hug.

  • Marshall is the typical boy - climbing on everything.

  • We made sure to get photos with Elena and son and with daughter.

  • Sacramento Family Photography

  • Marshall was instructed to hold on tight to his sister. He did a great job. Don't you just love Vanessa's pink boots?!

  • Sacramento Family Photography

  • We put Vanessa in the swing and she was all smiles.

  • And one more photo taken by Natalie. What a cutie pie!
