  • I'm really behind in posting about our book club books. In April, I hosted book club, and we discussed The Help. I had fun trying to keep with a Southern theme for food (thanks to Kim last month going with the French theme from Sarah's Key). I made Harvest Chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, mac-n-cheese, as well as a delicious Chocolate Pie. For those that have read (or seen the move) The Help, you will know the significance behind the chocolate pie. I have to give credit to a few places where I picked up some of my sides: Jack's Urban Eats for the mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese and Sweet Cakes by Rebecca for the BEST EVER chocolate pie.

Kathy and I listened to this book on Audible (before seeing the movie) and I loved that it had multiple readers. It made the story come to life. Some may think that listening (rather than reading) is cheating...but I LOVE AUDIBLE. I'm in the car at least an hour a day at least, or it motivates me to walk when I'm reading a good book. I highly recommend Audible.

Kathryn Stockett creates extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes how women view one another. It makes one (who grew up in this timeframe) wonder what we'd have done in their timeframe. I really enjoyed reading (aka listening) to this book.

  • The Memory Journalists participated a few months ago in Mimi and Co's launch of their new linen collection and brand new website. Mimi and Co's new collection was designed with you in mind. This new line of linens varies from fun neon 80's Material Girl inspired prints, to Vintage Romance, to Betsey Johnson rock-n-roll fun!

"Mixin-and-matchin were the name of the game this time around", according the Mimi and Co, "therefore all of our linens have coordinating chair covers with versatile pieces that are interchangeable to allow you to create the perfect pairing for your wedding or party theme. Simply layer more pieces for an elaborate luxury look, or dress down with just one statement piece for a simple chic theme. Possibilities are endless!"

We were thrilled to photograph 3 of their tables and will be showcasing those photos in subsequent blog posts. We hope you are inspired! Take a look at this model's gown (below) made out of linens!

  • Michelle and Jim's wedding day at Young's Vineyard started out sunny and relatively cool. Kelly and I started out taking a stroll of the vineyards. We knew we were in for a fabulous day with the team of vendors that Michelle had put together.

  • Michelle was already getting her hair and make-up done when we arrived. Michelle was worried about the wind - but it quickly died down before the ceremony started.

  • I really LOVE doing ring photos. This is probably one of my favorite ring photos ever.

  • Dawn, with Natural Flair, created some colorful floral designs. Monkey tails...used them in my own bouquet!

  • Young's vineyard wedding

  • Michelle and Jim saw each other before the ceremony so that we could take a few photos before the guests arrived for the pre-ceremony appetizer hour. Jim's expression when he first saw Michelle was priceless.

  • Seeing each other allowed for a celebratory toast - Michelle with some champagne and Jim with Stella.

  • Michelle and Jim were so at ease before the ceremony started.

  • Appetizers were passed during the pre-ceremony cocktail hour by Beth Sogaard Catering.

  • Celebrations Party Rentals provided the tent, draping, lighting and many of the rentals. The mastermind behind the planning however was Michelle herself.

  • The color scheme was purples and greens and ivory. The wooden chargers were pretty cool. Each table was named after a different varietal of wine...a favorite pastime of Jim and Michelle...to share a bottle of wine.

  • As Michelle walked down the aisle, Jim walked up to meet her and walk her the rest of the way.

  • Rev. Jeri Murphy officiated and made it a remarkable wedding ceremony.

  • Some of you may have seen this photo on facebook already, but for those of you who aren't into facebook, I just had to share it again. It's such a great moment right after the ceremony when everything is perfect.

  • Michelle and Jim made sure to take some time to enjoy the furniture that had been brought in for lounging.

  • They sipped a drink, kicked their feet back, and watched as their guests enjoyed the good food.

  • Just as the sun was about to set, we took Jim and Michelle out for a few quickie photos.

  • The sun went down, toasts were said, and the music started playing. Mother Mayhem was an awesome band to play into the night.

  • Everyone kicked their heels up until it was time to leave...on the provided transportation by Universal Limo that arrived to take guests to the after-party. The night was just getting started!

  • While in Southern CA last week, my aunt took my sister, Dad, and I to a movie where friends of hers were involved in the making of the film. The film, The Last Ride, is debuting in small independent theaters across the country. We were lucky enough to be in town for this one special night.

The Last Ride recounts the final days of country-music legend Hank Williams, but it's strangely short on actual information about the singer. We only sparingly hear tidbits of his music on the radio, and we learn almost nothing of his past. In fact, no one ever refers to the man by his proper name. He's only known throughout the movie as Luke...the drifter.

The cool thing we were able to participate in was the post show Q&A with many members of the cast/crew. Jesse James (Silas in THE LAST RIDE) joined Jett Williams (Hank Williams daughter), Harry Thomason (Executive Producer & director) and Benjy Gaither (Producer/Composer) following the showing at the theater, as well as others and spoke to us for more than an hour after the show was over.
