  • Hi, readers. We've got a unique topic for you today! You can read our past Health and Wellness posts on the blog.

You've probably often heard the phrase "You are what you eat" but what about "You are what you think"? There is in fact a direct link between our thoughts and how we feel. If you think back, you will probably find a number of instances where you have experienced this firsthand. If you are nervous about something, you may have worked yourself into trembling hands or an upset stomach. If you are feeling consistently down, you may have spontaneously gotten a cold. If you are watching a scary movie, your heart may have started pounding and your palms sweating. From healing.about.com, the medical origin for this is in your hypothalamus, the part of your brain that converts your emotions to an actual physical response. This part of the brain also controls your appetite, blood sugar, body temperature, adrenal and pituitary glands, heart, lung, digestive, and circulatory systems. It's no wonder that your emotions can wreak havoc on your body!

  • The Secret

  • The good news is that you can be in charge of your body. Science tells us that we can boost our immune system, fight infections, and be happier simply by changing our thinking. It's the amazing mind-body connection. So on to positive visualization. The basis of this technique is thinking about and believing in whatever is healing for you. The first step is to mentally relax yourself in a quiet environment. Next, you either think or say what it is that you want to heal, or how it is that you want to feel, or an outcome that you want to achieve. Then you imagine yourself in this same situation as if it has already taken place. This may sound like wacky advice, but it has helped and healed many people. Give it a try! You have nothing to lose. It doesn't have to be on a large scale. You can visualize a great presentation or a fantastic workday. You can even visualize a happy, stress-free day. The options are endless. Just know that you can start using your creative mind to your advantage.

  • Have you heard of The Secret? This wildly popular book is all about the power of the mind and how it can help you to build health and success throughout your life. It's a great, quick read!
